Evelyn J. Tidwell was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas.
She first became introduced to Athletic Training at Fort Worth ISD’s Southwest High School. There she learned to tape her high school basketball teammates ankles. She went on to achieve her college education with a bachelor’s degree at William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri in 1990. When she was not playing college basketball and student coaching at William Jewell, she was a member of the student athletic training program, helping to cover the other sports.
She completed her Master of Education degree at Baylor University in Waco, Texas in 1994. While at Baylor she served as a graduate teaching assistant and traveling student athletic trainer for both volleyball teams and football teams.
In 1995 she became the Assistant Athletic Trainer for San Antonio’s East Central ISD serving over 1000 athletes as well as teaching Physical Education. In 2000 she became the Head Athletic Trainer for the district. In those ten years at East Central she developed a student athletic trainer program from the ground up. Her love for educating coaches, parents, students and athletes was evident in the success of the student athletic trainer program.
In 2005-2017 she worked in conjunction with Dr. Jesse DeLee as the Athletic Trainer for Karnes City High School. During those same years she helped cover Edgewood ISD and Harlandale ISD events and games that needed an Athletic Trainer.
At the end of 2017 she started working for Christus Santa Rosa Hospital as an Athletic Trainer for events and schools that do not have Athletic Trainer coverage.
She served AAATA as the executive board secretary for 10 years from 2005-2015. She has been an active member in AAATA for 27 years. She is humbled and excited to become a member of the 2020 AAATA Hall of Honor.
